Josephine Chan Bio

Josephine Chan was born in Hong Kong. Ms. Josephine Chan is the oldest daughter of seven children. She says, “We were very poor and life was tough but I had kind, loving parents and siblings. At times, all we had to eat was some rice, since my father worked for a big rice importer. But we were a happy family, living in two tiny rooms in a public housing complex. I helped my mother with house work, babysat all five younger siblings and went to school. This helped my independence and people and time management skills.”

Indeed, Ms. Chan’s skills have brought her  far away from her early life where she and her siblings worked all summer for one hundred dollars that was used to support the family. Along the way she has had meaningful work experiences that have inspired her creativity, work ethic and passion to help others.

As a young adult, Ms. Chan realized her dream of studying abroad when she came to the U.S to learn English and attended Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science (now Philadelphia University). After graduating, she earned a position as Vice President of Production at Good Lad Clothing Company. Ms. Chan is now owner and operator of the Philadelphia-based company, which manufactures children’s apparel. Good Lad also donates products and funding to APS programs.

“All children are beautiful and sweet,” Ms. Chan says. “I would love to help all to have a better life with a good solid future. We are one world.”
