Memphis Street Academy has been approved by the Department of Education as a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) site. This means that all Memphis Street Academy scholars are entitled to a free breakfast and lunch program without the requirement of completing lunch applications.
Scholars will be given this snack during their 30-minute independent reading period on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays each week. In an effort to promote healthy eating and lifestyle choices for our scholars, Memphis Street Academy is committed to adhering to the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Nutritional Guidelines for food and beverages on our school campus.
Therefore, effective September 8, 2015 scholars may not bring outside food or drinks onto the campus except in instances of medical need where the school nurse has met with the family. In the event that a scholar wishes to pack a lunch, healthy packed lunches are permitted in the school building. These lunches will be under the supervision of the cafeteria staff and must qualify as nutritious according to the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Division of Food and Nutrition Program.
For more information regarding the Department of Education’s nutritional guidelines please visit their page HERE or feel free to meet with the school nurse to discuss requirements for packing a school lunch that meets the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Nutritional Guidelines.
